I first ordered the 1961 strat and didn't like the tone at all. It sounded brittle and didn't break up a way that sounded pleasing to me. The action and general setup was horrible which didn't help.

Obviously, it has a poly finish, and isn't as refined, but it satisfied my SG desires just fine. It actually sounds pretty good when you split the coils, decent enough to gig with.There are a few things to consider. 1. Your presets need to be dialed in for the amp and cab. Taking one that was dialed in for FRFR and running it into an amp and cab is not ideal. 2. The power amp does make a difference. I've had the best results with 6L6 tubes, ideally ones with late distortion characteristics. 3.The biggest appeal is the lack of menu diving, immediately and the sound quality- as far as what I've read. Compression is nice too. The cons of phantom power , polarity and pads are not a major concern, but not being able to imprint EQ and Compression, while not a deal breaker is a little " one step forward, two back".

If it is, just go easy on the wraps around the tuning posts, stretch them well and tune to the trem and you should be fine. The only Strat bridge I have ever had is the vintage 6-screw, and it is incredible stable. It's on an EJ Strat with a bone nut that was properly cut.Weight of the Fender 8lbs 0oz.
