The barrel does retract into the receiver, but the bolt appears to reach a high-friction point about two-thirds of the way through its travel. I've cleaned and lightly lubed the recoil spring and friction rings.That should definitely loosen things up. As far as removing the pin, yes after it's driven down, you should be able to remove the firing pin. Mine was to long and bottoming out on the slide before it cleared the bolt. The 11-48 has a 1-72 threaded pin that can be engaged by a commonly available screw, the Dremel retaining screw for its buffing / sanding drum mandrels. Remington use to have a factory tool. I tore it down (pulled the bolt and the trigger) and cleaned it, now it cycles sometimes and sometimes it doesn't.
