Black Max XR2 150 HP Question. My outboard is a 87 Mercury Black Max XR2 150HP. Motor starts fine, no misses while running, gets on plane fine. My issue is when I am running, motor sounds/feels like its bogged down. Will only get to around 5200 rpm, according to the owners manual I found online, 6000 to 7000 is recommended wide open throttle.5,617. Sep 21, 2011. #8. Carb link and sync, idle timing, can combine and cause low speed problems. A '9' heat range is too cold and will cause a low of low end problems.
