Marlin 39a missfires. My 3 year old 39A missfires after about 5 or 6 shots. The next 2 or 3 missfire.The firing pin barely dents the rim of the cartridge. Then fires 5 or 6 more and same thing happens. Have tried different brands of ammo to no avail. Cleaned everything and firing pin is not peened and the chamber rim is not dented.

These new 39A's with the rebounding safety do not. The old ones had a deep notch in the hammer that the trigger would slip into and be safe. The new ones only have a ledge in the hammer that the trigger rests ON, not IN. If done right, you can pull the hammer off the trigger.

The fireing pin seems loose and will go back and forth about a 1/4 inch. This may be normal but I just can't remember. The gun went back together fine and fires properly. The Model 39 firing pin is the same as the one used in the Model 1897. The 39A pin is different, but may work with some fitting. There's plenty of reproduction 39 firing pins available, but the striking nub may need a little file work if it's too long.
