The newer Mark 5 versions and the Versamec (I think) use a 'J-shaped' bolt. MEC's site has manuals for the dis-continued and current presses with diagrams and parts-list. The devil is always in the details.

The progressive MEC 650 is an entirely different press than the single-stage 600 Jr. and I see no way one could successfully do any shimming in the primer cup of a 600 Jr. Bumping up your payload with the same powder charge might be asking for trouble. It doesn't take much to exceed shotgun pressure limits of 11,500 psi for 12 gauge. If the load isn't a "book" load, don't shoot it. Might switch to a slower powder with more bulk. 17 grains of powder doesn't take up much space in the case.

Find a 20 ga. press in need of some repair or missing bottles for a great deal, you will be much better off than trying to install 20 ga. dies on a 12 ga. press. You should be able to buy a working 600 jr. 20 ga MEC for around $25.00 on the website should you be patient. They can be found but are hard to find, brass or plastic. Mec offers a replacement - revamped system. At a nominal cost that looks more robust than the old wad guide.
