Dial is very important, that is understandable. Then, especially for vintage watches used to use tritium paint, lume will age and not functional. Signs of yellowing and some might have cracks and missing paints. As ORIS display here (starts from 1:40) they scraped off old paint and re-applied lume on vintage watch hands.

A lot of the newer diving watches had this weird lume that looked like blobs of glue. The aesthetic was very poor, a blob of grey glue but what's more worrying is that next to a Tuna the lume looked weak. I have a Turtle with killer lume but ...
