Typically the "A" motors make a few more ponies, but the difference is very minimal. Also another difference is the a's are rubber mounted to help with vibes. The "B"'s are solid mounted.

Find a good running motor trans and primary. (The whole motor) 2. I had to cut down the rear motor mounts by 1/8"each. Or if you have the ones from the 96" bike swap them. Fronts worked with no mods. 3. Swap plugs on the stator and transmission. From 96 to 88. I cut them off used crimps and shrink tubing. 4.Get a 06-12 transmission bracket.
