5 miles from home the check engine light began to flash repeatedly and suddenly the engine became very rough. When I pulled into our neighborhood (he lives 4 houses down from me) the car went in to electric mode at a stop sign. When the motor fired up if began to shake VERY violently and sounded like it was coming apart.

We had an 03 tahoe with the 4.8, That vehicle "never" failed us and we allways enjoyed the room for luggage and kids on roadtrips. The only drawback is that it was extremely under powered. Traded it in on an 08 denali xl and without a doubt is the most comfortable/powerful road vehicle we have ever owned.

I am losing coolant fairly quickly. Recently changed thermostat because it was overshooting to about 230 degrees before it would open and cool down. Mechanic did a pressure test and saw no problem. Oil appears uncontaminated. No fliud on garage floor at all.Replaced the turn signal relay (lighting control module) with the wrong one, then replaced the turn signal switch. Same problem remained, left turn preformed flawlessly. Right turn sometimes worked correctly, sometimes hazard flashing. As far as the aftermarket, the 4.8 can untilze anything bolt on that was intended for the 5.3 as they are the same engine with the only difference being diplacement. Apr 5, 2008. #4.
