Answer 1 of 13: My husband and I will be traveling to St John in mid June, 2020. We love to snorkel. Anyone have favorite spots? We will do 1 day via boat or tour, but the other days will be start offs from the beach. Relatively speaking, St. John is a very safe place. We are not immune to crime, but most of our crime is of the non violent type, burglary probably the biggest. You will want to use normal precautions such as locking your car and villa, don't go looking for illegal substances, don't get falling down drunk and wander around town at night, that sort of thing. To stay 15 days on St John would be my choice. 2/3rds of the island is National Park and with 33 bays and numerous hiking trails to explore you will not run out 8f things to do. August you will have very calm seas is no storms are in region (get travel insurance this is hurricane season and villas will not refund you). If the roads are dry, all the North Shore beaches can be accessed with a non-4WD. You'll just be limited in being able to use some of the side of the road parking where the drop offs can be significant. Lameshur will be a definite no-go, but the beaches out east would be fine, again with dry road conditions.

5. Re: Health of the coral reefs in St. John USVI. Theres been much degradation but St John underwater world almost definitely remains above average without getting into SCUBA destinations. All the reefs, worldwide, are dying. Enjoy what's remaining and please do what you can to protect our natural splendor.
